Elon Musk offers to buy Twitter for $43 billion
A week ago Elon Musk had purchased 9.2 percent stake in Twitter.
Elon Musk was previously appointed as a board member in Twitter.
Now Elon Musk stated in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday.
He says that Twitter has "extraordinary potential" and he wants to unlock it.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has offered to buy 100 percent of Twitter for $54.20 per share in cash.
According to Musk, the social media company needs to go private because it can "neither thrive nor serve" free speech in its current state.
Twitter shares jumped 12% in premarket trading after closing at $45.85 a share on Wednesday.
Now the company said in a statement that "The Twitter Board of Directors will carefully review the proposal."
To determine the course of action that it believes is in the best interest of the Company and all Twitter stockholders.
